Albert Heijn

Retailer Albert Heijn collaborated with Capgemini, SRC and Microsoft on an automated data management solution designed to improve data accuracy as a critical step to realize full benefits of Global Data Synchronization.

Global Data Synchronization (GDS) facilitates collaboration between retailers and manufacturers through the adoption of global trading standards. Complying with global standards can generate supply chain savings and productivity improvements of 1% to 3% for retailers and consumer products manufacturers, impacting the bottom line by 10% to 15%.

Data Quality: The Foundation for Improved Collaboration

The high degree of errors in the information shared between manufacturers and retailers remains a critical issue for the industry. Today leading companies have become more aware of the size and complexity of the challenge and many have started working together to fix the problem. However, to do so effectively they must address the root cause of poor data accuracy in the consumer products and retail industry: data quality. This video highlights the key data quality issues and looks at how they are being addressed.

Benefit from Capgemini’s Experience

Capgemini works with consumer products and retail companies to help them gain the advantages of GDS. In one example, we worked with Conair to help it become GDS-compliant and publish product data to the UCCnet for several retail customers. In addition, a rollout strategy for additional customers was put in place. Most importantly, the company began to develop a culture that recognized the value of process, data and system commonality.

In addition, we are working with a large retailer to help the company improve data accuracy and alignment with their suppliers as they lay the groundwork for a GDS implementation.

Capgemini is a leader in GDS working closely with the Global Commerce Initiative (GCI), the standards group spearheading this initiative. We have developed business cases for several GCI-endorsed standards.

Measuring the Business Benefits of GDS

Our joint study with GCI titled Global Data Synchronisation at Work in the Real World: Illustrating the Business Benefits includes case studies highlighting how manufacturers and retailers have reduced costs, increased sales and improved productivity through item data synchronization. Other Capgemini/GCI thought leadership on GDS includes:
