Christian

“The company changes quickly and I believe that in the market we are supporting, you have to be flexible to survive.”
– Operations Manager, Outsourcing Services, Germany, with Capgemini since 1993

After studying at the College of Economics at Wiesbaden, Germany, Christian was an apprentice at an IT and Technology and Economics Company for three years. In 1993 he joined German consulting company Gruber Titze & Partner as an administrator and followed through to Capgemini when the two companies merged that same year.

Inspiration

Originally attracted to consulting by the high standards and the professional approach of the people, Christian was very impressed with Capgemini’s investments after the merger: “Capgemini brought in Macs and invested in Networking, something that we didn’t have originally. It was exciting and a boost for us to learn about networking technologies.”

Development

Christian started out in a small IT department of 7 people, which has grown to a total of 42 people. “Capgemini started to focus on IT. This was great for me!” In 2001, Capgemini began outsourcing its internal IT team and Christian was transferred to the outsourcing team. “Now I am also responsible for external customers, and we have won a lot of new accounts. It’s different, because there are more factors involved, but I enjoy it.”

Life at Capgemini

For Christian, one of the advantages of working for Capgemini is the flexibility, and also the confidence they have in his work: “I am able to make decisions and move forward and use my own thinking.”

He also likes being in an environment of high-performers. “All the people are well educated and very professional. Capgemini provides a constructive atmosphere for people driven by success and targets.”

Dedication

“Every new project is a big challenge. But you learn from it and with experience you can laugh about your difficulties later. I’ve been with the company for 15 years and I’m still learning everyday!”

One of his greatest challenges was the merger of 3 IT centers. “The most difficult part was getting the people involved to accept the change. That took a lot of talking, meetings and bringing people together.” One of the lessons he has learnt is that “We are all humans, not machines! What works on paper may still need a lot of investment in people management.”

Time Out

Christian has a wife and 3 year old daughter. He spends a lot of his time outside work with his family and friends. “I have a small daughter so I don’t get much time for hobbies, but I play the keyboard for fun. I also enjoy tennis and work out at the gym.”
