Barry
“I have known my team for a long time. They are truly my friends—we have a lot
of fun together.”
– Creative Director, North America Marketing, with Capgemini since 1991
Barry has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi, with a minor in marketing and an emphasis on Graphic communication. After graduation he moved to Atlanta, where he worked in several advertising agencies before joining Ernst and Young in 1991. When Ernst and Young Consulting merged with Capgemini, Barry went with them as a part of the North American Marketing team.
Inspiration
Originally, Barry had intended to stay in advertising, but circumstances brought him to Ernst and Young. He decided to stay at Capgemini because, “I like the people. Since I have been here, I have gotten to know many, many people who work in North America and around the globe. They are respectful of my time, talent and efforts. This wasn’t something I was accustomed to in the ad business.”
Development
When he started at E&Y, Barry was an Administrative Assistant working with the Upper Management. They quickly identified his potential and moved him to Practice Support. Barry now works as North America’s creative director. “I didn’t really have a foreseeable career path. I owe a great deal to the people who recognized my talent at Capgemini.”
Life at Capgemini
“One of our values is ‘fun’ and I appreciate this in work. We always have fun and that’s really important when you are interacting with people. There is a real environment of that here: we laugh a lot and joke with each other. That’s part of being good friends. It’s also a good release at work. If we think something, we can say it – it is very liberating.”
Dedication
Every day we are faced with an overwhelming number of things to do, so we have to make the best of our time and resources. What I enjoy is the result – being able to help people make complex ideas simple.
Time Out
A self proclaimed creatologist, Barry writes short-stories and a column in a local newspaper to promote local artists. He draws, paints and is also a singer/songwriter and once played live on the radio in Atlanta. “I’m an artist at heart. I do lots of artwork for Capgemini. But personal and corporate creativity can be quite different. These hobbies are an outlet for the rest of my creative energy.”
